Perceptions of fairness and why they matter!

I have done a lot of research on Organizational Justice as both an undergraduate and in my graduate studies.  This is one of the most important elements to retention in the workplace. Employers that understand this theory and implement best practices will have greater retention rates.  Employees want companies to play nice and be fair.  "Perceptions" of injustice is a major reason employees leave or bad-mouth a company.  

What can you do? 
1. Watch this powerpoint provided by the Society of Industrial & Organizational Psychology.
2. Review your policies.
3. Watch your actions and those that have power in your organization to ensure fairness. 
4. Ask your employees.

I am a consultant and I weave this knowledge into my work with my clients.  Perceptions matter and sometimes it's a misunderstanding that causes a bad optic.  Bringing in someone that can remain impartial and ensure confidentiality for the employees is a win-win for both clients and employees.
